About this session<\/h2>\n

This workshop explores how dignity can be expressed in design through maximalism and minimalism, not as a fixed concept, but as something interpreted, constructed, and made tangible through form. Working in pairs, participants will create abstract typographic compositions that examine how visual decisions communicate presence, respect, and value. Each pair produces two responses: one through accumulation, density, and layering, and the other through reduction, restraint, and clarity. The focus is not on stylistic outcomes, but on how elements such as space, hierarchy, tension, repetition, and composition generate meaning and inform the human experience of design. Through this process, participants begin to understand dignity as embedded in design choices rather than ornamental representation. Grounded in the core values of the South Asian Design Educators Alliance (SADEA), particularly dignity and plurality, the workshop centers on collective making and engages multiple modes of perception. It recognizes South Asian design as diverse and evolving, formed by a plurality of voices and perspectives. By shifting attention from representation to construction, the workshop encourages participants to build visual systems that carry conceptual weight while reflecting on how contrasting approaches can express dignity in distinct yet meaningful ways.<\/span>

Este taller explora c\u00f3mo la dignidad puede expresarse en el dise\u00f1o a trav\u00e9s del maximalismo y el minimalismo, no como un concepto fijo, sino como algo que se interpreta, se construye y se hace tangible a trav\u00e9s de la forma. Trabajando en parejas, los participantes crear\u00e1n composiciones tipogr\u00e1ficas abstractas que examinan c\u00f3mo las decisiones visuales comunican presencia, respeto y valor. Cada pareja produce dos respuestas: una a trav\u00e9s de la acumulaci\u00f3n, la densidad y la superposici\u00f3n, y la otra a trav\u00e9s de la reducci\u00f3n, la contenci\u00f3n y la claridad. El enfoque no est\u00e1 en los resultados estil\u00edsticos, sino en c\u00f3mo elementos como el espacio, la jerarqu\u00eda, la tensi\u00f3n, la repetici\u00f3n y la composici\u00f3n generan significado y dan forma a la experiencia humana del dise\u00f1o.
